Möngke Khan dispatched Kublai to the Dali Kingdom in 1253 to outflank the Song. During the campaign Kublai's Advisor Yao Shu - 姚樞 advised to not kill the innocents and cause chaos if he could. Next morning, as Kublai was mounting up, he leaned over to Yao Shu and said: ‘What you told me yesterday about Cao Bin not killing people, that is something I can do.’
